Vision
A Free State where rural communities have full access to world-class cinema, and emerging filmmakers build sustainable creative careers.
Curated for the people of the Free State.
From 26 to 28 November 2026, Hennenman Town Hall becomes a cinema. Three days of feature films, documentaries and short films, with the chance to meet the filmmakers behind the lens and to discover opportunities in South Africa’s growing film industry.
For decades, quality cinema has stayed in the big cities, out of reach of rural communities. This festival brings it to Hennenman, so young filmmakers, seasoned professionals, teachers and curious audiences can gather, talk about the stories that shape us, and imagine new possibilities for their own creative futures.

A Free State where rural communities have full access to world-class cinema, and emerging filmmakers build sustainable creative careers.
Create access, skills and opportunity for filmmakers and audiences in Hennenman through cinema, mentorship and industry dialogue.
Free State stories sit at the heart of the festival and belong in South Africa’s national conversation. Filmmakers from Hennenman and across the province are part of the creative economy, and this festival gives their work a place to be seen and respected.
Visiting filmmakers and industry professionals will discover Hennenman, its landscape and its people. The connections they make can lead to lasting relationships and new opportunities for the area.
The open call welcomes student projects, first-time productions, independent shorts and experimental pieces by young creatives. Exhibition space is reserved for them, alongside established work.
The festival creates work for interns, professionals and community members across production, marketing, coordination and support. The masterclasses are built for young people and aspiring professionals, so everyone involved learns on the job.
